While from a business perspective it is desirable to have a "Single metric" for comparison of server relative capacity and throughput, it is a fools errand to search for one. For one thing, capacity and throughput though related are not the same thing. This talk will explain how to use fundamental machine specification to gain a first order positioning of machines and also how their differences lead to a range values impossible to cover with a "single metric". The aim is to show that using a "Standard Metric ratio is akin to declaring by law that " in order to make life simpler, from now on pi shall be equal to three."
