The session will describe my experience in implementing a scheduled backup solution using REXX scripting and built-in z/VM tools. I will outline the background of what lead to my requirement for such a solution and the considerations I made in deciding to pursue the method I eventually employed. I will provide technical examples during my presentation including the REXX I wrote to accomplish the backup solution and diagrammatic descriptions of the system I put together.
The presentation will describe using only built-in z/VM facilities to achieve the creation of the backups of Shared File System file pools. I will mention that I offload a copy of the backups to tape using Dr. C but in the context of the fact that Dr. C only supports CMS minidisk backup.
