This session will present a user experience that focuses on the Linux for System z implementation of a hybrid DataMart model that incorporates an operational data store (ODS) model with the traditional DataMart model. This hybrid implementation draws upon the traditional data mart model to provide aggregate data and the ODS model to provide more detailed transactional data. As such, the configuration and implementation using Virtual Linux Servers under z/VM on a z10 processor will be presented, which includes the use of IBM's Websphere DataStage product for extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) of data into a DB2 based repository from several external databases. Challenges faced and resolved during the implementation of this configuration will be discussed. Finally, resource requirements, i.e. IFL, memory and SAN space as well as performance statistics of the production DataMart implementation will be presented.
