Traditionally, we have thought of IT as the provision of data structures, code, transactions, and user interfaces that encode business operations, forcing business to think in these terms, or for business requirements to be elaborately translated into these paradigms. However, available or emerging technologies allow us to model and construct IT solutions in paradigms already familiar to business, and which in fact directly align with how the business is organized - processes, decisions, situational awareness. Consistent use of these technologies can drive a new kind of partnership between business and IT, leading to better business results and organizations better able to respond to change.
