Mainframe Tooling for the Next Generation

Monday, August 2, 2010: 11:00 AM-12:00 PM
Room 310 (Hynes Convention Center)
Speakers: Tyler Allman (Compuware Corporation) and Carsten Andersen (Jyske Bank A/S, Denmark)

Enterprise IT organizations are looking to standardize development tooling for all platforms and languages in order to:

-          Provide an open  development platform for application development and maintenance

-          Reduce the mainframe learning curve for “nextgen” mainframe developers

-          reduce complexity and costs

-          increase developer productivity

Using industry standard open-source tools such as Eclipse to support the  mainframe application code lifecycle will greatly reduce the learning curve for programmers new to the mainframe. This flexibility will enable Enterprise organizations to lower the risk associated with transitioning the workforce assigned  to their most business-critical applications. It is also vital that these tools do not alienate the current mainframe application developers or reduce their productivity.
