Energy consumption and cooling requirements for IT equipment have become important issues in the IT industry and data center operators are faced with serious challenges. Increasing energy costs for operation and cooling of servers is becoming a significant cost factor. In some data centers, power demand is outstripping supply and distribution capability, while cooling capacities at their threshold have become a limiting factor in deploying new systems. Through it's ability to support sustained high system utilization System z is a highly energy efficient solution by design. To further help deployment in the data center a variety of estimation, monitoring and trending tools have been released for System z.
