16737: Understanding the Impact of the Network on z/OS Performance

Wednesday, March 4, 2015: 11:15 AM-12:15 PM
Issaquah B (Level 3) (Sheraton Seattle)
Speaker: Ed Woods(IBM Corporation)
Handouts
  • Mainframe Network (2.5 MB)
  • Understanding network performance, and the impact it has on overall z/OS performance, is an important part of formulating an integrated performance and availability management strategy. This session will discuss various examples of z/OS workload processing, and examine the impact of the network on overall performance. Example scenarios for CICS, IMS, DB2 and WebSphere MQ will be discussed in detail.

We will cover suggestions on how to analyze, assess, and determine the impact of the network on overall z/OS performance. We wil show technical examples of performance analysis scenarios using monitoring tools, such as IBM OMEGAMON. We will discuss how to create a more integrated, end to end monitoring strategy that includes relevant network information.

This session is for all who want to gain a better understanding of the impact of the network on z/OS performance. Objectives include:

    • Understanding the impact of the network on z/OS performance.
    • How to analyze typical z/OS workloads and network performance.
    • Analyzing performance using available tools (such as OMEGAMON).
    • Recommended approaches and management strategies.
