  • You have been hearing the mantra of 'Tape is dead!" for decades, yet at no point in the history of tape have the available solutions been better.  Not exactly what would be expected for a 'dead' technology.  Will tape 'die'...certainly at some point, but what will that look like?  This session will look at this important technology from a past, current and future view and cover...

Why this refrain of “Tape is dead!” is still be repeated.

How tape is and remains a fundamental storage technology.

What the future holds for tape and other storage technologies.

The speaker has spent the past 36+ years working with tape solutions from both the hardware and software side and has assisted hundreds of end users in the management of their tape environments be they physical tape or virtual tape, automated or manual.  This depth of experience, along with long exposure to the engineers and scientists behind tape products, provides him with a unique perspective on tape storage as well as perspectives on the overall storage environment.
