Speakers: Tracy Dean(IBM Corporation) , Michael Sine(IBM Corporation) and Eduardo C. Oliveira, IBM, Wave, for, z/VM, Tiger, Team, Lead(IBM Corporation)
Handouts
  • IBM Wave for z/VM, Hands-on Lab (1.2 MB)
  • IBM Operations Manager for z/VM, Hands-on Lab (119.7 kB)
  • IBM Backup and Restore Manager for z/VM, Hands-on Lab (42.7 kB)
  • In this lab, you'll have the choice of several administration, monitoring, automation and backup/recovery scenarios for z/VM and Linux on z Systems guests using the following tools that make up the IBM Infrastructure Suite for z/VM and Linux product:

    • IBM Operations Manager for z/VM
    • IBM Backup and Restore Manager for z/VM
    • IBM Wave for z/VM
    • IBM OMEGAMON XE on z/VM and Linux
    • IBM Tivoli Storage Manager

Examples of some of the labs:

    • Viewing and interacting with service machine and Linux guest consoles
    • Taking an action based on a console message
    • Monitoring user ID's for logoff status and taking an action
    • Monitoring spool space
    • Monitoring page space
    • View the overall performance of the z/VM system
    • View the overall performance of Linux virtual machine
    • Determine what resources on the system are under constraint by virtual machines
    • Work with projects and create prototypes
    • Clone a virtual machine from the prototype created by student
    • Create backup jobs for complex backups of minidisks, SFS filespaces, and DASD volumes
    • Perform a simple backup to disk
    • Find data that has been backed up and restore it
