  • This session will cover the new zEDC Express technology, an overview of the compression data format and how this new device ties into z/OS. Coverage of the different methods of using the device will also be covered including zlib, z/OS SMF and z/OS BSAM/QSAM.

    We will cover base configuration steps, HCD panels, Virtual Functions, etc. We'll talk about the data format (DEFLATE) and how it compares to existing z compression technology (CMPSC/RLE). We'll show examples of RMF reports, display commands, etc.

    The speaker will also provide an overview of zlib and Java support. What is zlib and what is provided with z/OS 2.1. What is java.util.zip and how can compression be easily integrated into existing stream based applications. This will also touch on buffer size concerns.
