  • Introduction to Network Management (2.2 MB)
  • There are a ton of management tools available to help your mainframe communications perform at peak performance and remain highly available. The key is how these tools use a core set of technologies. This presentation details the availability, location and use of the basic tools required by the network administrator to diagnose problems in a TCP/IP network. This  includes initial problem determination, possible causes, and actions to be taken. The effects of some of the specialised traffic (e.g. ICMP, DNS) will also be explained in brief. The use of the utilities (such as 'ping', 'traceroute', 'netstat', and traces) and packet capture utilities will be shown in some detail, both on and off (where appropriate) the z/OS platform.
