Virtual Linux Server Disaster Recovery Planning

Having dozens of virtual Linux servers running on a System z requires a solid plan to recover those virtual servers should a significant outage cause the environment to be unavailable. The IBM System z hardware and z/VM as the virtualization hypervisor are tools that can reduce the potential issues of recovering. This session will include an overview of issues to consider when planning for recovery and testing a recovery plan for virtual Linux servers. The discussion will include tips and information about the features and tools of z/VM that are available to help recover Linux servers. The information covered is based on more than fifteen years of experience recovering both z/OS and Linux virtual servers using z/VM. Some limited technical examples of how to handle specific tasks using z/VM for planning and configuring recovery systems/environments will be shown.
