Application and data management procedures have evolved in parallel with the storage systems that support them. The introduction of raid, local and remote storage replication, storage virtualization, virtual tape, and automated storage tiering technologies affects how we present storage, perform backup and recovery, and provide business continuity protection for our applications and database systems. This presentation discusses how the diverse set of new storage features and functions can be leveraged by using storage-aware data management and application-aware storage management products to simplify application and data management operations, improve performance, promote high availability, and reduce processing and storage costs.
