12029: Dramatically Reduce the Cost of Sequential File Accesses in CICS

Friday, August 10, 2012: 8:00 AM-9:00 AM
Platinum Ballroom Salon 2 (Anaheim Marriott Hotel)
Speaker: Stephen P. Reid(Mainframe Specialist)
Handouts
  • Dramatically Reduce the Cost of Sequential File Accesses in CICS (456.4 kB)
  • Reduce the cost of multiple accesses to sequential files in CICS, from hundreds or thousands of machine instructions down to just 3 for a READNEXT or less than 40 for a DELETE or a new WRITE - and new records can be inserted anywhere in the file.  A REWRITE can even be achieved with no overhead at all as long as some simple coding guidelines are followed. An extremely efficient approach to sequential file-handling online, using 64 bit storage above the bar, while remaining thread-safe for non-update READs and even providing a thread-safe option for updates as well, with just a little more overhead.
