Handouts
  • Safe and Secure Transfers with z/OS FTP (1.4 MB)
  • FTP is a readily available, convenient, and inexpensive technology to transfer files and data sets between z/OS and a virtually unlimited number of other operating system platforms. This session will explore a wide range of aspects related to how FTP works on z/OS with a focus on how you can secure both the FTP environment itself and the individual data transfers that z/OS FTP participates in both as a client and as a server. We will look at a set of usage scenarios, providing suggestions on how to best exploit selected security features of z/OS FTP technology. Covered features include protection of data transfers using Application Transparent Transport Layer Security (AT-TLS), using SERVAUTH security profiles to limit access to FTP system resources, securing and limiting certain FTP functions such as anonymous FTP, and configuring FTP to enable firewall traversal.
