Orphaned Control Intervals (CA) have found a home. You can now avoid unnecessarily extending data sets and planned outages for VSAM data set reorganizations. A new function, CA Reclaim, introduced in z/O V1R12 provides improved performance by reducing extends, minimizes space utilization, and increases application availability by avoiding planned outages for VSAM key sequenced data set reorganizations. From a user's perspective, the speaker will discuss what causes orphaned CA's, how they are now reclaimed, and provide examples of how users are enabling this function in their environments.
