Enclaves are a very important and flexible, but commonly misunderstood mechanism in z/OS. This presentation will cover in depth the essential concepts behind enclaves, the various types of enclaves, their core purpose, and how they function. We will discuss what z/OS subsystems and components exploit enclaves, with a special focus on how DB2 uses enclaves.
The presentation will then discuss what information is available to monitor and manage enclaves, and consider recommended strategies and best practices when looking at enclaves. Examples of relevant enclave information will be shown using both RMF and OMEGAMON monitoring tools. Consideration will be given to how to best analyze the relevant numbers, and how to best address potential issues. A particular focus will be given to representative DB2 workload scenarios.
