9156: Mainframe Operating Systems Boot Camp: Part 6 of 5

Tuesday, March 1, 2011: 11:00 AM-12:00 PM
Room 201D (Anaheim Convention Center)
Speakers: Robert Rannie (Northern Illinois University) and Milica Kozomara (CA Technologies)

This is 'Part 6' of our five-part Mainframe Operating Systems Boot Camp.  This session comprises a remix of Mainframe Operating Systems Boot Camp: GPC and OS - Part 1 of 5, and in addition, an overview of the Mainframe Operating Systems Boot Camp: Parts 2 through 5.  It is designed for anyone who may be interested in learning what material is covered in the 5 part session before attending some or all of the Mainframe Operating Systems Boot Camp sessions at the August, 2011, SHARE meeting.

However, take heart!  All five parts of the Mainframe Operating Systems Boot Camp will shortly be available through SHARE's eLearning facility!

The speakers will focus on the basic instruction fetch loop, interrupts, SWAP, control blocks, and special considerations when using general purpose register zero.  They will cover the major control blocks the OS uses to execute work, such as the Communications Vector Table (CVT), Task Control Block (TCB) and the Request Block (RB).  The speakers will explain how operating systems work and introduce significant elements, some specific to IBM's mainframe, and of the General Purpose Computer (GPC) Operating Systems (OS).

Salient features regarding the operation of IPL, SVC, Program Interrupts, and I/O will be included.

We welcome all zNG members to attend.
