This presentation will focus on some of the errors commonly made in z/VM and Linux on System z including system and networking environments and how to avoid them. Some of the self inflicted cases that will be discusses include not desk check configuration files, shoddy documentation practices, housekeeping glibness managing files, return code ignorance, and endless patching of the house of cards.  z/VM and Linux on Systems z specifics exemplified like SYSTEM CONFIG tailoring, forgetting the root password, staying on back level CP and Linux kernel releases and overloaded Linux virtual machines.
