The Fast and the Curious: Streamlining the Development of a New Mainframe Generation

Tuesday, August 3, 2010: 9:30 AM-10:30 AM
Room 311 (Hynes Convention Center)
Speakers: Renat Islamov (CA) and Michal Cizek (CA CZ s.r.o.)
Handouts
  • The Fast and The Curious.pdf (2.3 MB)
  • Are you a zNextGenner, feeling overwhelmed by the learning challenge ahead? Or an experienced mainframer, assigned to train up colleagues new to mainframes? This session will focus on the mainframe trainee experience, from first sight of a green screen to starting to write product code. Written and presented by zNextGenners who have recently been through such training themselves and are now developing mainframe products for CA, the session will include:

    • How to select topics to add to your learning plan
    • How to identify the most effective learning methods and locate useful resources
    • Some of the typical challenges and frustrations encountered by trainees, and how to overcome them
    • Open discussion

This session will be invaluable for zNextGenners who are new to the technology, as well as those tasked with training them. Although the specific training program referenced is for a CA product team, the session is aimed at and written for a general audience.

Tracks: IT Management, z/OS Systems Programming and zNextGen
