z/VM 6.3 performance guidelines are just "different". Does vertical scheduling really help? How do you measure it? If an EC12 processor has a clock speed of 5.5 Ghz, really, just how many mips is that? If a z13 is only 5.0 Ghz, is it slower? How can you make them go faster? In theory, reducing level 1 / level 2 cache misses means less cycles per instruction. Does vertical scheduling help as advertized? This presentation will look at optimizing your configuration and utilizing processor cache statistics for validating the benefit of your configuration changes.
