Reducing CPU Consumption with Oracle on IBM z Systems for Extreme Consolidation

Customers are using IBM z Systems to help reduce software and maintenance costs for their database infrastructures. CPU consumption is a critical component in determining the number of databases that can be consolidated in a virtualized Linux in a z Systems environment. Many customers also use CPU consumption as a critical component in their charge back models for their cloud provisioned systems to their customers. This session provides CPU reducing tips for running Oracle databases with Linux on z Systems based on real customer experiences. This session will also show the CPU performance gains with the new IBM z13 compared to previous zEC12 systems. Examples provided will show the benefits achieved by implementing some of these suggestions in order to achieve cost saving consolidation ratios.
