There is no denying that virtualization optimizes compute and storage and allows for increased mobility and elasticity in the data center and cloud. However, virtualization places greater demands on the network - some are obvious such as bandwidth constraints, performance, and security. Others such as IP addressing schemes, layer-2 connectivity requirements, load balancing, symmetrical routing, network management, and provisioning are less obvious. This session outlines the challenges presented to the network due to virtualization and some of the ways to design around them.
