15885: CICS Workload Management - a Best Practice Approach

Thursday, August 7, 2014: 3:00 PM-4:00 PM
Room 315 (David L. Lawrence Convention Center)
Speaker: Ian Mitchell, IBM(IBM Corporation)
Handouts
  • CICS Workload Management - a Best Practice Approach (2.6 MB)
  • CICS Version 4 introduced improvements to CICS workload management, increasing throughput and efficiency of the WLM function, and later adding additional routing algorithms to provide more options for managing the behaviour of a workload.  This session will discuss how Optimized WLM operates and the implications is has on the coupling facility, and how these changes remove the batching phenomenon seen in distributed workloads.  Finally we will discuss the benefits of the additional routing algorithms that are available, and look at the additional points of control available in CICS V5 for custom workload management.  The session will include hints, tips, and best practices gathered from first hand experience in the field.
