15719: Capping, Capping, and Capping. Comparison of Hard and Soft-capping Capacity Controls

Monday, August 4, 2014: 3:00 PM-4:00 PM
Room 303 (David L. Lawrence Convention Center)
Speaker: Horst Sinram(IBM Corporation)
Handouts
  • Capping, Capping, and Capping. Comparison of Hard and Soft-capping Capacity Controls (1.1 MB)
  • System z offers many different options to limit the capacity that may be consumed by a system or by a specific workload. In this new session the speaker will compare the hardware capping mechanisms, like initial and absolute capping, with the soft-capping mechanisms defined capacity, LPAR group capacity, and also with resource capping. Emphasis is on how working out what capping flavor is appropriate for what purpose, and how the different capping mechanisms interact with each other and with other configuration properties. This session is recommended for zNextGen (zNG) members, and those new to the System z platform.
