Big Data Analytics (BDA) requires new tools and techniques for reducing bandwidth, GCP (General Central Processor) capacity and storage, along with data protection concerns that come with BDA. In this session, we will explore some data management and data protection capabilities available on System z utilizing the new zEDC (zEnterprise Data Compression) card, along with existing facilities such as the zIIP, Central Processor Assist for Cryptographic Function (CPACF) and the Crypto Express cards. This will show ways to handle data being moved to or from z/OS taking into consideration data transformation, capacity and security where z/OS is partnering with a zBX or other platforms for BDA. This will also include benchmarking data to show the dramatic drop in CPU and elapsed time for large data management tasks through the use of contemporary hardware facilities and parallel processing.
