Replication of DASD has helped many companies decrease the amount of time it would take to recover systems in the event of a disaster but you cannot forget the access to data still on tape. This session will focus on why your tape data is important for disaster recovery, and network considerations for tape replication. It will discuss several tape specific topics including tape consistency considerations, DR testing considerations, and considerations about when to use synchronous mode copy. On the network side it will discuss real life experience using the TS7720 grid for disaster recovery, when to use channel extension and emulation with a grid configuration, and lastly network topology considerations (cascade vs. non-cascaded). The session, presented by Bank of America staff, is based on Bank of America’s real world experience with their environment.
