12677: The Business Continuity Paradox

Wednesday, February 6, 2013: 9:30 AM-10:30 AM
Yosemite A, Ballroom Level (San Francisco Hilton)
Speaker: Jamie L. Giovanetto(J. Giovanetto Incorporated)

The speaker has seen this many times...and it is getting more prevalent.  An IT organization spends millions of dollars on developing a world class business continuity solution.  Then they discover that they have lost their basic disaster recovery capabilities.  Wait!  You say these are the same thing?  They are not, although our industry has often used the terms interchangeably and certain vendors have been very successful in selling that concept for their own purposes.  Having worked with hundreds of IT organizations around the globe, the speaker has seen the disasters that a business continuity solution can address and the disasters that it cannot.

This session will cover this paradox where well thought out business continuity solutions leave a disaster recovery gap, how it has come to this, and why this gap must be closed.  It will also cover what happens after the disaster and common practices that may mean you are less prepared than you think you are.
