Enterprise use, management, and security of mobile devices is relatively new. While employees were commonly issued Blackberrys with access to corporate e-mail for the last 10+ years, the rapid adoption of iPads and other tablets and the decision by companies to allow employees to “bring your own device” (BYOD) has caused a significant shift in the marketplace over the last two years. Now IT managers must deal with multiple operating systems, users are demanding access to resources well beyond e-mail (containing sensitive and regulated data), the quantity of devices and the ease with which they are lost or stolen is overwhelming, and the increased data demands on networks is rapidly driving up costs.
