Biographical Sketch:
Joe Temple has been around IBM all his life. He has been working there for almost 40 years. Joe started as a development engineer on processor systems. In 1990 he left development to work with the field in product introduction and product engineer on Mainframes and the original IBM parallel super computers SP1 and SP2. After a brief tenure in micro electronics Joe joined the STG's "Presales technical support community" in 1996. He has developed many of the methods by which IBM provide technical support, including the preannounce early shipments of new hardware processes, the "Design Center" process, Cross Platform Sizing Methods, and Fit for Purpose Platform selection. This work led to his appointment to IBM Distinguished Engineer in 2006 and continues to be his focus. Joe has a Master's Degree in EE from UVM and Graduate Certificate in the analysis of computer systems from Union College. He holds over 25 US patents and numerous publications putting him on IBM's "10th Plateau" for patent activity. Joe spends his free time outdoors with his wife Rae as much as possible. They do a lot of dog walking, beach walking and they make frequent attempts to play golf. They also spend a lot of time with their Daughters' families. FaceTime conversations with their 4 year old granddaughter are an almost daily occurrence. When not with family Joe spends free time making hard cider.
