Biographical Sketch:
Since Jan/2012, Irma develops, maintains, and supports Firmware associated with the family of disk products Enterprise Storage DS8000. The DS8000 Firmware provides abstraction services to the upper level storage protocols FCP and SB-5, initializes hardware, and provides disk virtualization. From 2007 to 2011, Irma participated in the development of IBM System z's Data Facility Storage Management Subsystem, z/OS DFSMS. As a Staff Software Engineer with DFSMS, Irma was able to contribute to the IBM System z - z/OS disk I/O performance strategy High Performance FICON for System z (zHPF) by implementing the zHPF architecture for non-Extended-Format Physical Sequential (non-VSAM) Data Sets for z/OS, which represent 30 to 40% of the off-peak I/O volume for a typical System z Enterprise Server. From 2004 to 2007, Irma worked as a software tester for various z/OS Problem Determination Tools, performing functional and system level testing under CICS and TSO. Irma contributed to the overall test strategy of File Manager for z/OS (FM) by designing and implementing procedures that improved the test coverage planning process, and reduced testing time. In 2001, Irma was hired by IBM to join the Source Language Debugger (SLD) development team. As a Software Engineer for SLD, Irma participated in the development of the Remote Workstation User Interface (RWUI) for SLD, an Eclipse-based user interface, implementing IBM's EPDC 3.08 Communication Protocol. Irma holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from New Mexico State University (2001), and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the Metropolitan Autonomous University (1997). Irma was awarded the National Merit Scholarship for Graduate Studies Abroad from the Mexican National Council for Science and Technology (1998-2000), and the University Medal of Merit (1998) for graduating with highest honors from her class at the Metropolitan Autonomous University. She holds a System z Certification "z/OS System Programmer" (2008), and an Industrial Engineer Professional Certificate (1998). On her spare time, Irma enjoys hiking and snowboarding.
