10991: Ignore the Chair and See the Person Sitting In It!

Monday, March 12, 2012: 9:30 AM-10:30 AM
Juniper (Omni Hotel CNN Center)
Speaker: Jamie L. Giovanetto(J. Giovanetto Incorporated)

Feedback from a session presented by one of the speakers at SHARE in Orlando this summer brought out an identification of a particular bias from more than one person.   This session directly addresses that particular bias, how we react to someone who has an obvious disability.  Do we look at what the person can do or do we focus on what the person cannot do and thus discount their abilities?  What about 'disabilities that are not so obvious but may be visible in other ways?

This session is going to explore this topic from a couple of different approaches.  The lead speaker will talk of this topic from both a personal and a legal perspective, and then will turn the session over to some speakers that have both spent their careers in a wheel chair so they can relate their personal stories and answer questions from the attendees.

Come, listen and participate.  Maybe your perspective will change and help you become a better co-worker, manager, and/or person.
