Handouts
  • IBM zEnterprise zBX System x Blade Integration and Unified Resource Manager Virtualization (2.6 MB)
  • The IBM zEnterprise 196 introduces the IBM zEnterprise Unified Resource Manager that allows customers to manage a collection of one or more zEnterprise nodes including any optionally attached IBM zEnterprise BladeCenter Extensions (zBX) as a single logical virtualized system using a Hardware Management Console (HMC). The HMC provides a single point of control through which data center personnel can deploy, configure, monitor, manage and maintain the integrated System z and zBX hardware and software resources based on heterogeneous architectures in a unified manner. Besides providing the provisioning and life cycle management for the physical and virtual resources, the Unified Resource Manager can optimize, and adjust resources for all members of the ensemble in accordance to user defined workload goals and policies. The existing zEnterprise BladeCenter Extension (zBX) support for POWER7 blades was expanded to support running Linux and Microsoft Windows on System x on select IBM BladeCenter HX5 (7873) blades. This capability greatly expands the System z application portfolio managed by the zEnterprise Unified Resource Manager.
