The Common Information Model (CIM) provides an open standards based system management interface used for local and remote management of z/OS.
While z/OS CIM is required to run z/OS Capacity Provisioning and the z/OS Management Facility, a lot more functionality offered by CIM is worth exploring.
In this session the speaker will give a short overview of the basic concepts provided by CIM and explain, by a number of examples, how CIM can be used to manage z/OS resources . This covers scripted resource monitoring from local or remote systems as well as the CIM Java API used to develop custom monitoring applications.
The session will also cover the latest CIM features introduced with z/OS 1.12 in the area of Storage Management and the new Web Services (WS-) Management protocol in z/OS 1.13 that offers out-of-the box manageability from Windows systems.
