  • Centralizing Console and Log Management Across the zEnterprise (1.6 MB)
  • Managing z/VM and Linux Performance Best Practices (5.4 MB)
  • The zEnterprise continues the integration of traditionally distributed systems platforms into a centralized mainframe environment.  In the same way that Linux for System z integrated into this mainframe architecture, Power and Intel systems are integrating via the zBX.  Business application sets that cross z/VM and Linux on System z with zBX systems often benefit from centralized console and log management.  Traditional mainframe console sessions in operation centers are desired to help provide the same level of management typical of z/OS systems.  This session will introduce unique challenges associated with Linux for System z and zBX components and demonstrate a potential solution with syslog routing, and secondary user structures working together to create a centralized console view or views as necessary to help manage these environments.   IBM's Operations Manager tool and potential interfaces with IBM Event management tools will be used as an example, but the principles can be implemented with other vendor solutions as well.
