Saving Your Bacon: Recovering from Common Linux System Startup Failures

There are a number of relatively common system startup failures that will leave your Linux system dead in the water and with no working network connection. Whether caused by faulty processes, system administrator error or software bugs, knowing how to manually dig into the problem and fix it can save huge amounts of time. In this session, we'll talk about how things are supposed to work under the covers, and how that knowledge will enable you to fix system startup problems. Network permitting, we'll be showing some live demonstrations in addition to the lecture. We will be working from the assumption that your Linux system is running as a z/VM guest, but most of the techniques will be applicable to LPAR installations as well.
