Speaker: Eli Dow (IBM Corporation)
Handouts
  • IBM Watson and The Turing Test (967.7 kB)
  • Watson was fun. But real life is full of real challenges. The real test of technology is how you can apply it today across different industries to have real impact. The Turing Test was a proposal by Alan Turing to discover by asking questions to a hidden entity that might be a human, or might be a computer, when a computer seemed to have intelligence. This session will explore the machine learning aspects of Watson, which is necessary for a computer to seem intelligent. Topics covered will include:

    • How Watson understood the questions asked
    • How Watson understood the language enough to respond
    • How Watson calculated its confidence level

Join us for an interesting and informative real-life session on machine learning, and hear what lessons were learned on the five-year journey to deliver Watson.

Tracks: Application Technologies and Architectures, Architecture Summit, Business Intelligence/Analytics, Implications of Watson to Enterprise IT and Software Architecture
