With the push for data center consolidation, the significance of the mainframe as a centralized resource has increased. As bandwidth and availability requirements have increased as well, it is important to manage these resources effectively and optimize performance and resiliency. An important piece of the overall picture is the interface and interaction between the mainframe and the network. This session describes the design and configuration aspects of a Cisco based network both from a mainframe and a router standpoint. Areas such as routing protocol choice, workload balancing, convergence time, and packet sizes are highlighted. Cisco platforms such as the Catalyst 6500 and Nexus 7000 are covered as well.
