  • Session 10033: An Alternative Approach to the Configuration/Upgrade of OMEGAMON/ITM products (3.9 MB)
  • As featured in the "An Alternate Configuration Method for OMEGAMON Users" article in the June 2010 edition of the IBM System Z Advisor newsletter (http://www-01.ibm.com/software/tivoli/systemz-advisor/), current IBM® Tivoli® OMEGAMON® users know that an ISPF-based configuration tool called ICAT is supplied to assist with implementation. Some users have challenges configuring the OMEGAMON software because ICAT is unlike the configuration method used by other IBM products.

A new "PARMLIB" method of configuration, an alternative to ICAT, is being introduced in several phases to support z/OS ITM V622, OMEGAMON XE V420, OMEGAMON XE for Messaging V701 (and higher versions). For new OMEGAMON XE customers, the PARMLIB method might be more suitable since the parameter values are entered in the SYS1.PARMLIB-like user dataset (or user PARMLIB dataset). With the PARMLIB configuration method, you edit a comprehensive list of parameters in a CONFIG profile. The CONFIG profile contains parameters and values (IBM-supplied default or customer override) for configuring installed products and components. You then submit a series of jobs to create a complete runtime environment (RTE) with the parameter values you customized in the CONFIG profile. ICAT to PARMLIB RTE conversion tools are also provided for existing ICAT customers.

Our speaker will discuss the latest enhancements with the OMEGAMON/ITM PARMLIB tool.
