IBM offers a number of software pricing programs under the heading of VWLC (Variable Workload License Charges). Yet many people don’t take advantage of them and lose out on significant savings each month.
This session briefly explains how the charging mechanisms work and then discusses what you can do with soft capping. It postulates that whatever your load, it’s highly likely that low and medium priority batch work is a significant contributor to your peaks and unnecessarily adds to your costs. It ends with a short discussion of some means of controlling that load to keep your peak 4-hour rolling average at a level that satisfies the needs of your organization while at the same time dramatically reducing your costs.
