IBM zEnterprise Unified Resource Manager will be delivered as a set of significant extensions to existing System z management capabilities. These extensions provide system management functions for Linux guests of z/VM, for z/VM itself, and for virtual servers deployed on general-purpose IBM Blades that are being introduced as new elements of the multi-architecture zEnterprise system. This presentation will describe the new systems management functions. Through a specific use case scenario, it will also explore the path from an existing environment to one that exploits Unified Resource Manager functions. As well, it will describe how to exploit some existing facilities to enable new management capabilities.
