8238: Network Management in the Real World

Wednesday, March 2, 2011: 3:00 PM-4:00 PM
Room 212B (Anaheim Convention Center)
Speaker: Nalini Elkins (Inside Products)

Network management in the real world means operating the backbones which settle trillions of dollars in trade obligations, provide credit card services to millions of consumers, or health insurance to each of us.   These systems are what keep the capitalistic system, as we know it, running.

If there are problems on the network, it is crucial to know before degradation impacts delivery of service.  This session will discuss how some large financial institutions have implemented a system to warn of degradation on the TCP/IP network before it affects customers.

We will discuss our methodology:
1.        Business requirements
2.        Metrics used
3.        Processing of alerts and warnings
4.        Integration into our operational systems
5.        Results
