Using Virtualization to Help Move a Data Center

Tuesday, August 3, 2010: 1:30 PM-2:30 PM
Room 305 (Hynes Convention Center)
Speaker: Jim Moling (Financial Management Services)
Handouts
  • Using Virtualization To Help Move A Data Center.pdf (2.6 MB)
  • Need to move your mainframe to a new data center? Let virtualization come to the rescue! This presentation will demonstrate how a customer used virtualization to move their mainframe systems to a new data center, i.e. how they created all of the mainframe systems virtually under z/VM in a new DASD box at their existing data center, used XRC DASD mirroring to duplicate the data, then tested it with full customer participation, and finally sent the DASD box to the new data center, plugged it into a new mainframe and fired up the systems successfully with full IP connectivity the very first time!

Tracks: Architecture, Enterprise Data Center Management, Enterprise Virtualization & Cloud Computing, Operations Support and z/VM Systems Programming
