  • As system 'doctors', we are called upon to maintain the health of the z/OS system and 'unstick' it whenever it gets 'stuck'. Various installations will buy different vendor products and vendor-supported utility collections that help in this effort, but I am more in favor of developing a 'common denominator' collection of free tools you can always use for this purpose, whenever any need arises. Especially if you are a consultant and go from shop to shop, you don't want to be dependent on which vendor products the current installation happens to have bought. It is nice to have your own collection of tools that run on any z/OS system, which don't need licensing, and which you already know how to use. It is even nicer to be able to deploy all your tools in any installation, quickly. We have developed some brand new free programs that will quickly authorize all your tools, just for your own TSO session, so you don't impact any other users in the company. Using them will enable you to easily have the means to do all your assigned tasks, wherever you are working.
