This presentation covers the importance of tuning I/O in a CICS environment. The topics covered include tuning Non-Shared Resources (NSR) data sets and Local Shared Resources (LSR) pools. The presentation covers proper NSR buffering for both data and index buffers as well as when to use NSR versus LSR. In the LSR area the presentation covers typical tuning areas such as look-aside hit ratios and number of strings, but also covers other topics not often discussed in tuning sessions, such as buffer pool monopolization versus VSAM CI sizes and the use of multiple pools. The presentation uses information gathered via the STAT (DFH$STAT) transaction to demonstrate where to look for tuning information.
